Just a heads up residents!! From Tuesday Oct 26th- Tues Nov 2nd Health and Safety inspections will be taking place.
Purpose:
. Rooms and apartments are inspected to identify and correct items, which
impact our community's health and safety. These inspections are NOT designed to
monitor neatness or to impose on our residents.
How it works:
. Resident Assistants will make one attempt to contact you by stopping by,
emailing you, or by having sign ups to try and inspect your apartment when you are
present. Their second attempt they will key into your apartment and bedroom with a
fellow staff member to complete the inspection. A carbon copy receipt will be left
in your common room to indicate if any violations or health/facilities concerns were
found.
RAs will check:
* Smoke detectors
* Windows
* Flammable materials
* Ladder (3rd floor APT's Only)
* Fire extinguisher (APT's Only)
* Other: Please note candles, incense, unsafe extension cords and overloaded
outlets (cords should not run across floors, under fabric) and other items which
create fire risk
* General cleanliness: Rooms and apartments should be free from excessive trash,
food remains, open food items/containers, dirty dishes, etc
* Sinks, showers, toilets: Areas with water drainage should be free from clogs,
debris, hair, etc.
* Ventilation: Windows should open properly and HVAC should function. Screens
should be in place and in good repair.
* Other: Lofts, inappropriate bunking of beds and furniture which block means of
egress
* Routine damage, wear and tear: Ongoing repairs to walls, carpet, plumbing,
phones, etc., should be noted to allow for repair in an ongoing fashion.
* Intentional or accidental vandalism
Common Policy Violations:
* Pets other than fish
* Candles
* Halogen Lamps
* Lounge or other public area furniture in rooms
* Lofts
* Vandalism
Follow Up:
* Residents are given a maximum of 3 day to correct any problem noted during the
inspection
* Residents documented for policy violations and/or who do not correct items within
the specified timeframe may be required to meet with the CD.
